Child Support I
Thursday, January 18, 2007
I would like to share with you some court issues. My ex and I are going to court next week over child support. First, I filed a motion with the Friend of the Court, abbreviated FOC, in order to reduce child support based on "change of circumstances".
After I filed, I had to go to a hearing at the FOC. A few weeks later, the referee, a person of authority equivalent to that of a Judge, made a decision and a recommendation to be adopted by the court. However, my ex objected to the recommendation, which resulted in our going back to the main court. This process is very costly, as once you go to the court before the Judge, you feel compelled to hire an attorney, especially if the other party has one.
So far, my ex has objected to the recommendations of the FOC! I wonder whether my ex is objecting because of a disagreement with the decision, or to get back at me, or a combination thereof.
I will be talking some more about that next time!
Until then, have a good night!
Note: FOC exists in certain states, but not all 50 states! The idea is that the FOC helps the Judge with issues so that he or she does not have to handle all the details of all cases on his docket.
